  3.6.1. Primary tiller

  Tillers are branches that develop from the leaf axils at each unelongated node of the main shoot or from other tillers.The first leaf normally do not produce tillers. The first primary tiller usually develops between the main stem and the second leaf from the base of the rice plant. The tiller remains attached to the mother plant at the later growth stages but is independent because it produces its own roots.
