제26강. 관사의 생략(zero article / no article)

영문설명을 살펴보자

1. Notice that some nouns like this can be used with zero article to refer to a concept in general.

2. We say a girl goes to hospital or is at hospital. We are thinking of hospital as a general idea.

 

1. 장소, 건물이 본래의 목적으로 사용되는 경우

- Dr. Ryu goes to church once a week.

유 박사는 매주 한번 예배 보러 교회에 간다.

- Dr. Ryu goes to the church once a week.

유 박사는 매주 한번 교회를 방문한다.

- to school공부하러, in school재학중인, at school수업중인,

   after school 방과후에, to bed 잠자러, be in hospital 입원중인,

   at table 식사중인, in prison 수감중

 

2. 호격, 자신 가족관계

- Waiter, Three teas please. 웨이터, 차 두잔요.- Mother is working in the vegetable garden. 어머니가 텃밭에서 일하고 계신다.

 

3. 관직, 신분을 나타내는 명사, 동격이나 보어로 사용되는 경우

-President Lee visited the U.S.A. this year. 이 대통령이 올해 미국을 방문했다.-Dr. Ryu, the Director of the office, retired from the public position.

그 사무실의 소장인 유 박사는 공직에서 은퇴했다.

 

4. 식사, 운동, 질병, 운동, 학과, 언어, 계절, 휴잏명 등의 이름 앞에

- lunch, breakfast, soccer, tennis, cancer, summer, noon, night,

   statistics  Korean한국어, English영어, Christmas- I used to have lunch at 11: 30. 나는 점심을 11시 30분에 먹곤 했었다.

 

5. 교통, 통신 수단인 경우

- by bus, by ship, by telephone, by train 기차로...

- I reached Cheorwon by bus. 나는 철원에 버스로 도착했다.I reached Cheorwon by the bus. the를 붙이면 안됨

 

6. 대조적으로 사용되는 경우

- step by step 한걸음 한 걸음, face to face 얼굴을 맞대고,

from door to door 집집마다, day and night 밤 낮,

 

7. 관사 생략, 반복

- He is a poet and teacher. 그는 시인이자 선생이다. 동일 인물

- They are a poet and a teacher. 그 들은 한 시인이고 한 선생이다. 다른 인물
