4.2. Plowing
Rice field preparation involves one or two plowings, two to three harrowings, and one levelling. the purposes of field preparation are to prepare a suitable field, to eliminate competition from weed growth, and to improve the physical condition of the soil. Plowing indicates the initial process of cutting the soil using primary tillage equipment such as a moldboard plow. The field should be flooded 3 to7 days before plowing depending on the hardness of the soil. Flooding will soften the soil and help keep it from sticking to the plow. The working man should plow to a depth of at least 15 cm. If you have to incorporate and cover organic matters, plow deepper. The duration of field preparation depending on the number of weeds and plant stubbles on the field. Relatively clean fields can be prepared for transplanting in 10 days, but very weedy fields should be prepared for 20 days at least to allow the organic materials plowed under to decompose before transplanting.
