4.3. Harrowing
Harrowing indicates the process of breaking the soil clods after plowing using secondary tillage equipment like a comb-toothed harrow. It is better to drain off excess water before harrowing to leave just enough water for showing the high and low spots of the field. The working man should move mud from high spots to low for levelling. Repeated lenthwise and crosswise harrowing will puddle the soil adequately so that weeds, rice straws, and stubbles that were plowed under will be thoroughly mixed with the mud. Well prepared field enhances plant anchorage and uniform distribution of water, fertilizer, and soil-applied pesticides.
