제27강. 관사의 위치와 반복

 

［관사의 위치 the position of the articles］

✲ 관사 위치에 대한 일반 원칙

- 명사 앞에 온다  : a boy, a lady, the student

- 형용사 앞에 온다  : a tall man, a beautiful girl, the pretty doll

- 부사 앞에 온다  : the very tall boy, a very expensive car

- 즉. (관사 + 부사 +형용사 + 명사)의 순서

- She is  a very pretty student. 그녀는 매우 예쁜 학생이다.

- He is  the very nice boy who I met yesterday. 내가 어제 만난 아주 멋진 소년이다.

 

✲ 관사 위치에 대한 예외

 

1. so, as, too, how, however 등의 부사가 오면 부정관사는 형용사 뒤로 간다.

- 즉, ( so, as, too, how, however + 형용사 + 부정관사 + 명사 ) 순서가 된다.

- It is too difficult  a  question. 그 것은 너무 어려운 문제이다. It is a too difficult question. a의 위치가 잘못/일반 원칙에는 맞는 자리이지만

- I spent so good  a  time. 나는 아주 멋진 시간을 보냈어.

- I spent a very good time. very가 오면 일반 원칙에 따라, a가 부사 앞에 위치

 

2. all, both, double, half, such, many, quite, rather, what, twice, treble 다음에 관사를 쓴다.

- all the man, such a thing, quite a nice man, double the price

* Before singular countable nouns we usually use the whole rather than all the. Dr. Ryu could not stay for the whole jazz concert. 더 많이 사용 Dr. Ryu could not stay for  all the jazz  concert. all (of) the jazz

- What a pretty girl she is! 그녀 참 예쁜 소녀이구나!

- She is rather a young woman. 그녀는 다소 나이가 어린 여자이다.

- Both the boys were absent. 그 소년들은 둘 다 결석했었다.

- Polygamous marriages are accepted in quite a few areas, but clearly condemned in West European countries. quite a few = quite a large number = 상당수. 일부다처제의 결혼은 상당수의 지역에서 인정되고 있지만, 서유럽 국가에서는 받아들여 지지 않고 있다.

 

［관사의 반복 the repetition of the articles］

 

1. 두 개의 명사를 분명히 구별, 대조하는 경우에는 관사를 반복한다.

- A/the black and a/the white dog. 검은 개와 흰 개 두 마리

- The black and white dog. 검고 흰 얼룩이 한 마리

- The black and the white dogs. 검은 개와 흰 개 몇 마리

- The black and white dogs. 검고 흰 얼룩이 몇 마리

- 예외적인 경우도 있다.

. Dr. Ryu is a old man and a wise one.

. She has a simple and a beautiful nature.

 

2. 각 단어를 강조하기 위해서는 관사를 반복한다.

There are a book, a fountain pen and an ink on the desk. 강조용법

There are a book, fountain pen and ink on the desk. 보통용법

 

3. 둘 또는 그 이상의 동류(同類)의 단어에는 특히 그 관계가 밀접한 경우와, 두 개의 명사를 한 조로 생각하는 경우에는 원칙적으로 첫 단어에만 관사를 붙인다.

A cup and saucer, a watch and chain, a needle and thread, the King and Queen, the Prince and Princess, etc

- Then a gentleman and lady entered together. 신사 숙녀 한 쌍이 들어 왔다.

- A gentleman and a lady cannot be expected to agree on such questions. 남자와 여자의 의견이...

 

 

배신의 여인 딜라일라와 삼손의 얘기를 살펴보자.
