3.4.6. Sufficient nutrients
The availability of sufficient nutrients ensures good vigor of rice seedlings. Fertilizers supply nutrients in addition to what is already available in the soil. Fertilizers may be needed in the seedbed if the nursery period is long, in areas with poor soil, in upland nurseries, and in cold areas. In condition of insufficient nitrogen, It is mobile in the plant and moves to young tissues. Therefore the deficiency is first visible in older leaves.
