3.7.1. Panicle initiation
Panicle initiation occurs 35 days before flowering. A panicle forms at the tip of the growing point of the shoot. The panicle is visible to the naked eye when it is 1 mm long. At 1 mm, the young panicle has many fine, white, hairy structures at the tip. The plant will produce three more leaves before the panicle comes out of the leaf sheath.
